Over 90% Of Guitarists Use The Wrong Hands

When a person, who is right hand dominant, starts playing a guitar it's natural to hold the neck with the left hand and strum with the right. One forces the left hand to hold a chord pattern and then it's easy enough to strum with the right. A couple chords are learned, the strumming is straight forward with the dominant hand, and:

The Trap Is Set

Playing the guitar is mostly about the nuances, micro movements, dexterity, and coordinated positioning of the fingers on the neck. By using the non-dominant hand to fret, a guitar player wastes decades practicing the wrong skills with the wrong hands.

Of the handful of humans who have unique nervous systems which enable them to be virtuosic instrument players with their non-dominant hand, there are millions more who are only able to play basic and rudimentary song structures even after thousands of hours of dedicated practice.

The vast majority of people who are right hand dominant need to be playing a "left handed" guitar and vice versa.

This is the tragedy of so many false "cultural" norms, and we all get sucked into the void of doing the wrong thing; sometimes for decades and sometimes for a lifetime. Most never escape the trap and it's one of the reasons why McDonalds and other purveyors of poisons and diseases are still in business.
